Our Sanctuary

In the heart of Vancouver Island, nestled within the breathtaking Qualicum Beach area, lies a 22-acre haven of untouched beauty. This land, discovered in January 2024, holds a special destiny – to become the expansive home of Bears Buddies Animal Sanctuary.  We are so pleased to announce that as of August 01, 2024 the land is ours!! As we embark on the journey of transforming this wild space into a refuge for our furry friends, we remain steadfast in our commitment to preserve the land's natural essence.

Our vision is not to conquer the wilderness, but to harmonize with it. We understand that this land is a delicate tapestry of ecosystems, teeming with life that predates our presence. As such, our sanctuary's design will thoughtfully weave itself into the existing landscape. The catteries and dog areas will be constructed with sustainability in mind, using materials that minimize our environmental footprint. Trees will be carefully transplanted or left undisturbed whenever possible, their leafy canopies providing natural shade for our future residents. The land's organic contours will guide the placement of structures, ensuring a seamless blend of built and wild spaces.

We have graciously gifted with a two-and-a-half-acre head start. This section of land, already fully fenced, allows us to swiftly establish a initial haven. Even as we look to the future, this enclosed area will immediately provide a secure space for our first arrivals to roam and heal.

Bears Buddies Animal Sanctuary is more than a shelter – it's a love letter to the land and the creatures it will nurture. Every rock, every stream, every whisper of wind through the trees will be respected and preserved. As we build, we will listen to the land, allowing it to teach us how to create a space of true sanctuary.
